About the Website

This website has been designed by young people who have been affected by parental separation, for those in a similar situation across the UK. Whether it is exploring how to deal with step parents, coping with difficult emotions, or understanding that those impacted by family breakdown are not alone – there’s something here for everyone.

After speaking with local young people and recognising from our own experience that there is very little online support for young people whose parents have split up, OYAP Trust and Oxfordshire Family Mediation (OFM) teamed up and asked the Big Lottery’s ‘Awards for All’ to help us change this situation. Following a successful funding bid, we ran a series of workshops at secondary schools across Oxfordshire called ‘Fragments’, which encouraged the young people who took part to explore their family situation by producing creative ways in which to express and share their feelings. This included forum theatre, film-making, vlogging, blogging, animation and music, and enabled the participants of ‘Fragments’ to create the advice and support resources found on this site.

If you like this unique online support platform for young people, and would like to support the charities which made it possible, please visit OFM's Just Giving page and OYAP's Support Link.

If you would like to book a ‘Fragments’ workshop at your school, or would like to let us know what you think of the website, please email us. Thank you.

About Oxfordshire Family Mediation

Oxfordshire Family Mediation (OFM) is a charitable organisation whose objective is to alleviate the hardship and distress caused by family breakdown by putting children at the centre, not in the middle.

We offer a range of innovative services for young people aged 6-18 who have been affected by parental separation, including therapeutic support for individuals and groups across Oxfordshire. These services are designed to enable young people to voice their concerns, have their stories heard, and develop coping mechanisms for their changing family situation. OFM is the only organisation in the area offering specialist support to those affected by family breakdown.

We also provide mediation to families experiencing separation and divorce, which supports separated parents to identify their own solutions, while keeping the needs of their children central to discussions. We work to reduce parental conflict, re-open channels of communication and help separated parents manage co-operative parenting for the future.

OFM aims to raise awareness of the impact of parental separation on children; we deliver courses for separated parents on behalf of CAFCASS, provide tailored training for professionals, and have published two information booklets for young people, and for parents/professionals. Please note; OFM services are available in Oxfordshire only. For mediation in all other parts of the UK, please refer to NFM.
